A free font by Jens Kutilek | Deutsche Version

In 2008 I had tried to draw my “handwriting” into the computer using a mouse, just for fun, turning it into a font. A Fontblog article about Comic Sans prompted the release of my typeface under the name Comic Jens. Shortly thereafter, Jürgen Siebert published a full article called “Neue Alternative zur Comic Sans” about my typeface. During the first month more than 1400 people downloaded my font.

Download Comic Jens 2.0 – Zip file, the font format is OpenType TT. The fonts are available under the “Creative Commons-by-nd” licence, which means you are free to share them, and use them for any work (including commercial works) as long as you include a reference to the author (that’s me). |

Version 2.0 of Comic Jens has been released on 13 May 2010. It corrects some issues with a couple of letter forms and is now in TrueType-based OpenType format and features extended language support (including Cyrillc and Greek, more than WGL4), more OpenType features and improved screen display. Please see the specimen PDF included in the download for details.
Now you can use Comic Jens on your website for everyone to see!
Add these @font-face rules to your CSS:
/* first for IE, it only understands the EOT format */ @font-face { font-family: ComicJensWeb; src: url(http://fonts.netzallee.de/comicjens/comicjenspro-regular-l.eot); } /* then link to the TrueType file for other browsers */ @font-face { font-family: ComicJensWeb; src: url(http://fonts.netzallee.de/comicjens/comicjenspro-regular-l.ttf) format('opentype'); } /* finally the new WOFF format for Firefox */ @font-face { font-family: ComicJensWeb; src: url(http://fonts.netzallee.de/comicjens/comicjenspro-regular-l.woff) format('woff'); } /* Now you can use the font like any installed font */ body { font-family: ComicJensWeb, sans-serif; }
The files comicjenspro-regular-l.(eot|ttf|woff) contain only the Latin character set in order to cut down file size and download time. If you need Greek or Cyrillic support, use the files comicjenspro-regular.(eot|ttf|woff) containing the full character set instead.
If your browser supports it, you should see this very text written in Comic Jens. Feel free to use our webfont server, but remember: This is a free service, so there is no warranty of any kind! If the traffic gets too high, we may have to cut it off (but we have loads of free traffic).

Comic Jens was presented in the December 2008 issue of German design magazine Page in the cover story about “Type Classics & Alternatives”. Radio Fritz did an interview with me in August 2008 about why Comic Sans sees so much hate.
